Randy Heyler brings over 35 years of leadership experience in the photonics industry, most recently with Newport Corporation, where his responsibilities included general management, technology planning, strategic and product marketing, OEM business development, branding and product positioning, and industry trade and technical association leadership. His accomplishments include identifying and leading new business and product strategies, resulting in major new product platforms, technologies, and market channels, particularly in the area of photonics packaging. Randy holds both a BSME and an MS in Engineering Management from Stanford University.
Ronald T. Logan, Jr.
Director and Board Chair
Dr. Ron Logan is Chief Technologist and Sr. Director at Glenair Inc., a manufacturer of interconnect solutions for mil/aero, industrial and medical applications. From 2005-11, he was a VP/GM at EMCORE Corp., managing a profitable business unit manufacturing RF fiber-optic link systems, fiber-optic gyros, optical amplifier systems, and terahertz spectrometers. In 2000, he founded Phasebridge Inc., securing investment from Intel Capital, TriQuint Semiconductor and Idealab Capital Partners, and sold it to EMCORE in 2005. Prior to Phasebridge, he was a co-founder and senior manager of the Transmission Systems Division of JDS Uniphase. He also worked at the Caltech/NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has authored over 35 technical papers and book chapters, and is an inventor on more than 20 issued US Patents. He received his B.S. and M.Eng. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University, a Ph.D. in EE/Electrophysics from the University of Southern California, and completed Executive Education in Finance at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Robert G. Deuster currently serves as CEO of Collector’s Universe, a global leader in third-party authentication and grading services for high-value collectibles. From May 1996 until his retirement in October of 2007, Mr. Deuster served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Newport Corporation, a public company that is a global supplier of laser, optical and motion control products. Prior to that he served as President of Barry Controls and held various management and engineering positions at General Electric. Medical Systems. In addition to Ondax, he currently serves on the boards of two public companies: Symmetry Medical Inc., which provides medical devices and solutions to the global orthopedic market, and Pico Holdings, Inc., which acquires and develops unique undervalued assets, including water assets, land, and other businesses in strategic areas. Mr. Deuster received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Marquette University and a Masters Professional Director Certification from the American College of Corporate Directors, a public company director education and credentialing organization.
Andrea Belz is Director of the Los Angeles Regional Innovation Node and holds a joint appointment as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Marshall School of Business and the Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California, where she is also the Academic Director for the Master of Science in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies. Andrea has guided strategic planning for world-class innovators, including Avery Dennison, BP, California Institute of Technology, CVI Melles Griot, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Occidental Petroleum, and UCLA, as well as many university startups and venture capital firms. She is Managing Director of Kinetic Intelligence, an intellectual property strategy consultancy, and also serves on the boards of technology incubator ITUS and telecommunications company Sendify. She holds a B.S. in physics from the University of Maryland at College Park, a Ph.D. in physics from the California Institute of Technology, and an M.B.A. in finance from the Pepperdine University Graziadio School of Business.
Stephen Watkins is a Vice President at AON M&A Solutions and Managing Director of Arcturus Capital Venture Fund LP, an early stage venture capital firm focused on the southern California venture market. Stephen served as Ondax board chair from 2005 until 2014, and he currently serves as a director or advisor to several technology companies, including Prolacta Biosciences, Inc and SupplyFrame. Stephen earned an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA and received his undergraduate degree at the University of California at Berkeley.
